Photo 365 - On Assignment

Hello There Everyone and Welcome to the Blog

I have three sets of photos here. The first is my photo project (the original page) entitled Photo 365 - On Assignment. It was a spin on a 365 photo project. I love the idea of the 365 project, but I needed a little more structure. I also needed some help getting out of my photographic comfort zone. I decided to take suggestions for monthly themes from the people around me and those who view my photos. I finished the project on January 15th, but please feel free to go back and enjoy my year in pictures.

The second page is dedicated to my favorite photographic subject, nature. Right now that page contains just photos I have taken in Everglades National Park. I just finished updating it, adding more photos, captions, and common and scientific names for all the shots. Please enjoy!

The third page is from the second UM Spring Football game in 2010. This was my first foray into sports photography. I was "working" this event with a friend of mine who blogs for a Hurricane's sports blog. All the shots came from the stands because we didn't have sideline passes, but I still got some decent shots. I hope to update this page with shots from this year's spring game. Go Canes!

Enjoy the blog!

Tiny Fingers

Payed a visit to Flamingo Gardens today and saw a lot of cool stuff, and by cool I clearly mean cool to some science dork like me. Here is a budding flower to one of the many different types of plants they have there. Not sure what type of plant it is yet.

King of the Lizards

This literally the king of the lizards in my yard, he is the biggest and rest all get out of his way. He always stakes out his vantage point on top of an old milk crate and surveys "his" land.

Curled Purple Flower

I have these really cool purplish-blue flowers that bloom in my backyard and towards the end of the day they start to curl up and close like this. It looks like some kind of weird alien wrapping paper, or gift bag.

The Lookout

Yep, I like shiny things with lots of colors. I also like animals that pose for me for a nice long time especially in shitty shooting conditions. Thanks fly, thanks for looking out. Say hi to mother for me.

Little Button Flower

I completely made up that name, please don't think that is it's actual name. I have no idea what these flowers are called, but I'll make sure to ask my neighbor next time I see him since they are in his lawn.

My, what big eyes you have...

Ok yesterday I was tossing between which of two pictures of this fly to post and chose the other one. Well today I decided they are both worth posting so here it is. These little things are so cool looking.

Tiny Fly

And because the baby anole wasn't small and frustrating enough, I decided to try and get some shots of this absolutely minuscule fly. I love the iridescent colors on these guys, and this one was chilling long enough to get a few shot of him.

Baby Anole

This is Friday's picture, sorry forgot to post it up yesterday. This little guy was tiny, which made tracking him through the bushes as he jumped from leaf to leaf a real pain in the butt. But patience, patience, patience and you get the shot.

Beads

Beads, but what do they form? What are they on? How are they spiraling? These little guys are on a wine stopper a good friend brought back from South Africa. I like how my ceiling lights made lots of reflections in the beads, a cool unintended effect.

Woo, look at that reflection in the water droplet. You can see easily see the beautiful power lines in and you can even see the vague reflection of me in the middle. Love pictures of water droplets, so cool.

How's it hanging?

So I managed a trip to the zoo this morning before the rains came and I found this guy just chilling outside of one the exhibits... no he was not actually on exhibit in the zoo, just chilling in a wooded area along a path between animals. I think it is a banana spider, but I'm not sure, going to look into that.

Wet Palms

I feel like all it has been doing lately is raining, and raining, and raining, and yet we are still having record highs (30+ days over 90 degrees). Well here is one of my palms being wet, I love how the macro lens lets you actually see all the little pits on the surface of palm.

Green Acres

This is actually the picture for July 1st - I apologize, my internet is out so I'm out and about stealing internet from where I can. I just a new macro lens so what better way to learn how to use it and shoot macro than doing a month of it. Above is a shot of a banana leaf.
